THE SIEGE OF PETERSBURG
SNOWDONIA CENTRAL
SNOWDONIA CENTRAL
The main Confederate rail depot, the Battle of Stony Creek Depot took place on 28th June 1864 when the Union Army, trying to cut off Confederate Supply Lines, attacked the Staunton River Bridge - whilst that attack was unsuccessful, in the preceding three days the army managed to destroy some 60 miles of railroad, all of which helped in the disruption of Confederate supply lines and the eventual abandonment of Petersburg.

Whilst not under siege in the traditional sense, the Siege of Petersburg raged for nine months between June 1864 and March 1865 as the Union Army sought to pressure the Confederate forces to abandon both Richmond and Virginia, a key part of which were attempts to cut off the Richmond and Petersburg Railroad.

From Meade Station the railroad ran up Shooting Hill and crossed the Petersburg Railroad, and then onwards to the Jones Farm (site of a major battle during in the Siege) where it crossed the Jerusalem Plank Road, today Route 301. The Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road (June 21 to 23, 1864) is known as the First Battle of the Weldon Railroad and was an inconclusive battle which left the Weldon Railroad in Confederate hands.

From City Point the railroad ran eight miles to Pitkin Station, past Birney Station, and thence on to Meade Station, where IX Corps had a hospital. Today all that remains is a marker and a short stretch of railroad left to show the light-weight construction methods.

The point where the Appomattox River meets the James River is the starting point of the City Point Railroad, as ships which were too large to go to Petersburg had to unload here. By the time the Siege of Petersburg began, the wharves had been burned and the railroad itself was unservicable.

The owner of this train may take 1 Build Action (to place a garrison only) before all other Build Actions. They may also pay one Coal at the start of a round to gain a temporary Labourer for the round. The train is named after the Union Army General of the same name.
The owner of this Train may take 1 Stone each time they move their Surveyor. They may also pay one Coal at the start of a round to gain a temporary Labourer for the round. A civil engineer, in the Civil War Herman Haupt was a Union Army General who played a key role by revolutionising military transportation through the use of railroads - the locomotive featured was named after him.
If the Union General is on or past the Jerusalem Plank Road then before resolving area H (which does not have to have a Labourer on it) the owner may pay 1 Rubble by placing it on to this Train. At the end of the game the Owner of this Train gets 3 Victory Points for each Rubble cube on it. This Train cannot be used to gain a temporary Labourer. Whilst not technically a train, The Dictator was a seacoast mortar - a very large mortar generally used defensively in fixed fortifications - weighing in at 17,120 pounds, and placed on a specially reinforced railroad car, The Dictator was moved along a spur line between City Point and Petersburg Railroad into various firing positions.
Whenever the owner of this Train takes the Build Action, they take 2 Rubble cubes from Stock. They may also pay one Coal at the start of a round to gain a temporary Labourer for the round.

There are no weather effects in this scenario - the Excavation Work Rate is set at 3, and the Lay Track Work Rate is set at 1. The weather mechanism is used to determine the movement of the armies - Blue discs indicate a pro-Union movement, and the Gray discs indicate a pro-Confederate movement. In the Check the Weather phase the weather is checked and if the current weather disc is Blue then the Union General moves one Station forward towards Jarrett's Station, if it is Grey then the Confederate General moves on Station forward towards Appomattox Manor, and if it is Yellow then nothing happens. The end of the game is triggered when both General pieces are on the same Station card, which represents the inal battle to decide the siege.
